Student housing Campus Altes Landgut

Architecture competition

Urban design

The building will basically form two gateway situations. The first is the main access to the campus and the second is the automotive access. The design integrates perfectly into the master plan by taking up exactly the corner of the FH building. At the same time we tilt the building by about 5m towards Favoritenstrasse. By creating a larger angle, both accesses are strengthened.

Inner courtyard

An essential part of the urban design is the decision to open the inner courtyard to the south. This ensures optimal lighting and ventilation. The opening additionally accentuates the main access and allows for many rooms a view towards FH.

Ensemble

The master plan and architecture have been designed to the highest standards and define a modern city of learning that will be world renowned upon completion. An important piece of the jigsaw puzzle on the front side is the dormitory, which is visible from afar. Therefore, special attention should be paid to quality and synchronicity here. This applies to both the urban planning and the architecture.

Design

The basis of the design is the strong site topography in combination with the 300 rooms. There are two relatively equal entrances into the building that have to overcome 5m difference in terrain. We solve the problem with a lobby that fluidly connects the two floors. Basically, there were two first floors on different levels.
The lowest ground floor contains most of the common areas such as fitness, event hall as well as the helpdesk. On the upper floor there are already rooms and learning and music areas. The rest of the building belongs to the student units.
